Galina Ivanovna Slesarchuk is a famous scientist, a beautiful woman and a wonderful person. A senior researcher at the Korea and Mongolia Department of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, she is one of the leading Mongolian historians of Russia who have received wide recognition in our country and abroad.

Galina Ivanovna's life path began in Ukraine in the city of Sumy, where she was born on June 15, 1926. Her father, a prominent military commissar, Ivan Stepanovich Slesarchuk, received appointments to command positions in various cities of the Soviet Union, where he moved with his wife Anna Yakovlevna Slesarchuk and his only daughter Galya. So the childhood and adolescence of Galina Ivanovna were spent in constant moving. She went to school in Chita in 1934, and in 1936 she ended up in Sevastopol, where she graduated from the seven-year school.

In Sevastopol, the family faced severe trials: in 1937, his father, a military commissar of the Sevastopol Command anti-aircraft Artillery School, was arrested on a denunciation and held under investigation for three years, after which he was released and sent to work first in Chernivtsi, then in Omsk. The war began. In the autumn of 1941, Galina Ivanovna, together with her mother, under the bombing, literally with one of the last civilian trains, managed to evacuate to Omsk, where the family was reunited, but soon moved to Barnaul. In this city, G. I. Slesarchuk completed her secondary education, completing a ten-year course.

The thirst for knowledge made itself felt, and in 1944 Galina Ivanovna went to Moscow, where she entered the Historical and Archival Institute. During her college years, Galina Ivanovna fully experienced all the delights of living in a student dormitory and in a rented apartment. This did not prevent her from graduating with honors from the Institute, and by the decision of the Academic Council, she was accepted to graduate school.

I was unable to defend my prepared PhD thesis by the end of my post-graduate studies in 1951 due to illness. But in 1955, the defense on the theme " The peasants of the Spaso-Vvedensky Monastery in the first quarter of the XVIII century." By this time, Colonel I. S. Slesarchuk was discharged and his parents came to Moscow, where they lived with their daughter until the end of their days.

In 1955-1956, G. I. Slesarchuk worked at the Central State Archive of Ancient Acts (TSGADA-now RGADA), where she participated in the preparation of various collections of documents.

On April 16, 1957, G. I. Slesarchuk was enlisted as a junior researcher in the Mongolia sector of the Institute of Political Science of the USSR Academy of Sciences, which was headed by the famous Mongol scholar S. D. Dylykov. At that time, the sector was occupied by renowned Mongolian scientists I. Ya. Zlatkin, N. P. Shastina, A. T. Yakimov, N. T. Vargin, and N. M. Pechnikov. Meeting and communicating with them, the very atmosphere in the sector helped Galina Ivanovna, a Russian scholar by training, to start learning the basics of science about Mongolia. It should be noted that she came to the Institute of Oriental Studies as a highly qualified specialist-archivist and thanks to this, she immediately found her niche. Galina Ivanovna became the mainspring of a major scientific and publishing project initiated by I. Ya. Zlatkin, namely: work in the archives of Russia, compilation and preparation for publication of documentary materials on the history of Russian-Mongolian relations in the XVII century. Volume 1 was published in 1959 and covered the period from 1607 to 1636. A number of objective and subjective reasons delayed the publication of timely volumes: volume 2 (1636-1654) was published in 1974, volume 3 (1654-1685) in 1996, and volume 4 (1685-1691) in 2000.

And if the first two volumes were compiled by two more employees of the sector, the last two volumes were the brainchild exclusively of G. I. Slesarchuk. To do this, she had to work not only in the archives of Moscow and Leningrad, but also in the archives of Kazan, Tyumen and Irkutsk. As you can see, this series covers almost the entire 17th century and provides researchers with valuable material for studying not only the formation and development of Russian-Mongolian relations.

embassy, trade, military and other relations that make up the main block of documents, but also for studying the internal political situation in Mongolia, the relationship between various khanates and principalities, different aspects of life and everyday life of the Mongols, their dramatic struggle against the Manchu expansion, etc. In general, these volumes are of lasting scientific importance as a first-class source, and their publication-the introduction of more than 570 official documents with a total volume of 120 pp. - was a major achievement not only of domestic, but also of world Mongolian studies. The main credit for this, undoubtedly, belongs to G. I. Slesarchuk.

Painstaking work on these volumes gave her a fundamental knowledge of the modern history of Mongolia, and the preparation of her collection of documents "Soviet-Mongolian relations. 1921-1966" (Moscow, 1965) enriched her knowledge of the country's recent history. This, of course, was also facilitated by the most active participation of Galina Ivanovna in a major joint Soviet-Mongolian project-an expanded edition of documents and materials on the history of relations between the USSR and the MNR "Soviet-Mongolian Relations. 1921 - 1975. Documents and materials" in 2 volumes. Volume 1 covered the period from 1921 to 1940 and was published in 1975; volume 2 (1941-1974) was published in two parts in Moscow in 1979.

The publication of these collections was a significant event in the history of relations between the two countries. They have become a reference book for Mongolian scholars studying the history of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The accumulated rich experience of compiling collections of documents allowed G. I. Slesarchuk, together with a large number of other Russian and Mongolian compilers, to prepare two unique collections of documents: "The Comintern and Mongolia" and "Mongolian-Soviet cultural and scientific-technical relations. 1921-1960", which were published in Mongolian in Ulaanbaatar. 1996 and the second one in 2000. (Коминтерн бы Монгол. У-Б, 1996; Монгол зевлелтийн соел, шинжлэхухаан техникийн харилцаа. U-B, 2000).

Thus, historians and political scientists got their hands on the most valuable documentary materials for revealing the very complex and contradictory role of the Comintern in the history of the Mongolian People's Republic, and historians and cultural scientists - on the development of multifaceted cultural, scientific and technical ties between the Soviet Union and the Mongolian People's Republic.

All the above-mentioned works will forever remain an important testimony to the many years of dedicated work of G. I. Slesarchuk in the field of Mongolian studies. But they are far from being limited to the scientific achievements of Galina Ivanovna.

She has written more than 60 articles on a wide range of issues of Mongolian history and historiography. Her reports at various scientific forums, including the international congresses of Mongolian studies in Ulaanbaatar, have always aroused great interest among the scientific community in Russia and abroad. For example, we note her reports at the international conference in Zvenigorod "Taiji Senge and his relations with the Russian state "(2001) and at the VI International International Congress "On the trip of the Tobolsk Boyarsky's son F. E. Mikhalevsky and his assistant G. Sh. Shekunov to the Mongolian Ulus" (2002), articles " Russian archival documents about the White Kalmyks-Telenguts in the 17th century" (1999)," B. Y. Vladimirtsov's Letters to Paul Pelliot " (2000) and many others.

In the late 1990s, Galina Ivanovna was one of the initiators and main executor of the preparation for the publication of a complete collection of works by the outstanding Russian Mongol scholar, academician B. Ya.Vladimirtsov. The significance of the works of this leading figure in Mongolian studies does not require explanation - it is a classic. But after the untimely death of B. Y. Vladimirtsov in 1931, a very long time passed and many of his works were lost somewhere and became a bibliographic rarity. To find them, put them together, prepare them for publication, and comment on them from the point of view of modern knowledge - this work was undertaken by G. I. Slesarchuk together with A. D. Tsendina.

The first volume of works "Works on the history and ethnography of the Mongolian peoples" with an introductory essay by I. Ya. Zlatkin "Boris Yakovlevich Vladimirtsov-historian" was published in 2002. Galina Ivanovna compiled this volume and wrote footnotes to it, differing in the depth of historical and archeographic knowledge.

In 2003, the second volume of "Works on the Literature of the Mongolian peoples" was published, in which the compiler was also a well-known Mongolist-philologist A. D. Tsendina.

G. I. Slesarchuk again worked almost alone on the third volume of " Works on Linguistics of the Mongolian peoples "(Moscow, 2005) and, not being a linguist, prepared it at a high scientific level. It can be said that she has accomplished a scientific feat. Analysis of complex texts, many of which are written in transcription and transliteration, in addition to small handwriting and

page 213

font, cost Galina Ivanovna a sharp deterioration in vision, especially since even from a young age she wore pince-nez.

Together with A.D. Tsendina, G. I. Slesarchuk, despite serious health problems, is currently continuing to prepare for the publication of the last, fourth volume of " B. Ya. Vladimirnov. Emails". This volume will be unique in general, because the epistolary legacy of the academician has never been published anywhere before. And it allows you to look into the scientific laboratory of a scientist, into his spiritual world, into the circle of his scientific interests, in his connections with domestic and foreign colleagues, friends and relatives, and tells you a lot about his personal life.

Such is G. I. Slesarchuk's huge scientific background, her great contribution to the study of Mongolia, which has received wide recognition in the scientific world.

G. I. Slesarchuk and her works are highly appreciated in Mongolia. For her great scientific achievements, in 2006 she was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the Institute of History of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.

It should be noted that in the formation of G. I. Slesarchuk as one of the leading historians of Mongolia, a huge role was played by repeated research trips to Mongolia. She first came to Ulaanbaatar on a six-month business trip at the end of 1965, immediately began to study the Mongolian language zealously and achieved considerable success, greedily getting acquainted with the sights of the capital. Thanks to the assistance of the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Mongolian People's Republic, Academician, outstanding scientist and sincere friend of Russia and Russian scientists B. Shiren-dyba, as well as the head of the Foreign Department of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia Tsegmid, Galina Ivanovna was able to travel around the country, visit the Gobi and cattle breeders ' yurts.

And even then, Galina Ivanovna fell in love with Mongolia and the Mongols with all her heart, its wonderful nature, and the people - open, friendly, extremely hospitable, and the Mongols fell in love with her. Her apartment in Ulaanbaatar already in 1966 and in subsequent years, when she worked in Mongolia in 1973, 1975, 1976, 1978 and 1992, as a rule, became a place of attraction for many prominent Mongolian intellectuals: poets B. Ya. Yavuuhulan, Tserendorzh, historians B. Dashtseveg and D. Dashzhamts, philologists Ts. Damdinsuran, Luvsanbaldan and A. Luvsandandav et al. They came to her easily, to drink tea and have a heart-to-heart conversation. They were attracted to her intelligence, erudition, and beauty. They all became great friends of hers.

Galina Ivanovna traveled a lot around the country, got acquainted with the life and everyday life of Arats and other rural residents, with cities and administrative centers of aimags. She visited the east of the country, in the Dadal somon of the Khentei aimag, at the famous three lakes "Gurvan Nuur", near the birthplace of Genghis Khan, and in the west - in the cities of Kobdo, Muren, Bayan-Ulgiy, and in the south-in the Gobi Desert, and in the north - in Akhtav Bulak and Shamar, and in the center - in the Arahangai and Bayankhongor aimags, in Khar Khorin, near the Erdeni Dzu monastery.

She moved in various ways: on a Gaz-69 car, in the back of an expedition truck, and in the cabin of an AN-2 aircraft. And in the Khuvsugul aimag, I had to travel on horseback, cross fast rivers in the saddle, and climb up the mountain to the Dain Terhiy Agui cave. Far from being athletic, Galina Ivanovna bravely and bravely overcame these difficulties in order to learn more about the country and its nature.

It should be emphasized that Galina Ivanovna Slesarchuk and other Mongolian scholars of the Institute of Oriental Studies were mostly instilled by the President of the Academy of Sciences of the MNR, the unforgettable B. Shirendib. He took them on his trips around the country, on the way he introduced them in detail to its flora and fauna, monuments of the country, local features. Our stay in Mongolia was a very good school for all of us.

For more than 10 years, until 2009, Galina Ivanovna was the scientific secretary of the Korea and Mongolia Department of the Institute of Internal Affairs of the Russian Academy of Sciences. She devoted a lot of effort and knowledge to organizational work, but most importantly, she became the soul of the department and a champion of maintaining a healthy climate in the team, an atmosphere of goodwill and mutual assistance. There was never a time when she refused to help anyone with advice, sympathy, or recommendations. She enjoys not only the respect, but also the love of our team, and every time she appears in the department - and now this is not often due to illness-it is a holiday for us.

Galina Ivanovna Slesarchuk is a very courageous person. She never complains, bravely endures all adversities and continues to work fruitfully. Honor and glory to her! And heartfelt congratulations on the anniversary!

The staff of the Department of Korea and Mongolia cordially congratulates Galina Ivanovna on her anniversary and wishes her health and long life, well-being and fulfillment of all creative ideas.
