Oleg Vasilyevich Malyarov, Chief Researcher of the Center for Indian Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who devoted his entire scientific life to his beloved India, died on May 2, 2013. The last of the Mohicans, he belonged to the galaxy of outstanding indologists, whose representatives were L. I. Reisner, G. K. Shirokov, L. L. Yevkovsky, K. Z. Ashrafyan, G. G. Kotovsky and others. The departure of Oleg Vasilyevich was an irreparable loss for Russian Indology: a brilliant mind, encyclopedic education, and extreme scrupulousness in relation to facts and sources of information allowed him to work at the highest theoretical level, carefully honing the concepts of development and transformation of the Indian economy that he developed. O. V. Malyarov's works were repeatedly translated into English and German and were well-known and enjoyed a well-deserved reputation among Indian scientists and especially among the leaders of the Planning Commission of India, the main planning and economic management body of India. In recent years, Oleg Vasilyevich has paid great attention to the Indian experience of economic reform for our country.

O. V. Malyarov was born in 1935 in Vladivostok. In 1958, he graduated from the Economics Department of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. In 1967 he defended his PhD thesis "Foreign and monopolistic capital of India", and in 1984 his doctoral thesis "The role of the state in the evolution of the socio-economic structure of independent India". He published more than 120 works, including the fundamental monographs " Concentration of capital and production in India (the problem of the growth of monopolies) "(1968), " The Role of the state in the socio-economic structure of India "(1983), " The State and the private sector of the Indian economy "(1984), "Problems of the development of capitalism in the East" (1987), "Monopolistic Capital in the Socio-economic Structure of India" (1990), "Independent India: The Evolution of Socio-Economic Policy".

models of economic development " in 2 volumes (2010). And finally, the swan song "Public Sector in India" with a volume of about 100 a. l.with appendices of more than 60 a. l., which are of great value to practical economists in our country, since it contains a list of all state-owned companies in India. Oleg Vasilyevich only managed to discuss the last work in April 2013, and after his death in May of this year, the editorial board of the Institute decided to publish it. The monograph traces the entire long-term evolution of the public sector in India against the background of changing models of economic development - colonial, import-substituting, export-oriented. The last stage was analyzed with great depth and thoroughness and became a completely new phenomenon in Russian indology in terms of its usefulness for Russian institutions and organizations involved in developing economic development strategies, since it demonstrated a huge range of methods for improving the efficiency of the public sector in the context of reforming a multi-layered economy.

We, Oleg Vasilyevich's colleagues, have always been impressed by his great efficiency. He found a way to further intensify it by constantly publishing his new developments and polemical materials on the Political Education website and on his own blog. It attracted young specialists and scientists from other regions of the country to this activity.

Oleg Vasilyevich was an attentive and extremely friendly person towards his colleagues. Those of us who were lucky enough to work with him for many years in the same team and watch his scientific contribution to indology grow, were imbued with infinite respect for him. It served as an example for us of a deep and thorough approach to the topic being developed, as well as scrupulous work with sources. Kind, sympathetic, with a great sense of humor and a talented author of Christmas skits, Oleg Vasilyevich will always remain in our hearts and the memory of those who were lucky enough to work with him in the same department.
