On March 31, Executive secretary of our magazine N. S. Tikhonov turned 70 years old.

After graduating from the MGIMO Faculty of Oriental Studies in 1958, Nikolai Sergeyevich spent more than two years receiving primary "scientific leaven" at the Institute of Sinology of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

In 1960, he moved to journalism at Gosteleradio, where he was an editor, correspondent, commentator, columnist, executive secretary of the Chinese editorial office. As a correspondent, N. S. Tikhonov repeatedly went on business trips to China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and India. At the height of the "cultural revolution", he prepared reports from the scene in China. He finished his work on the radio as a deputy editor-in-chief of the Mir and Progress radio station.

In 1976, N. S. Tikhonov joined the Novosti Press Agency, where he was a columnist on Chinese issues. His materials were published in the press of Japan, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Burma, Sri Lanka and other Asian countries.

From 1981 to 1986, he worked in diplomatic and journalistic work in Malaysia, where he was a press attache, first secretary of the USSR Embassy and a representative of the APN.

Since 1988, Nikolay Sergeevich has been the Executive Secretary of the journal "Problems of the Far East". His experience, broad scientific and political outlook, taste for journalistic work, and excellent personal qualities all these years have had a beneficial effect on all aspects of the editorial board's life and work, at all stages of the journal's preparation-from the content to the design of our publication.

N. S. Tikhonov was awarded Honorary Certificates of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences for many years of work for the benefit of Russian Oriental studies, the development of editorial and publishing activities, and in connection with the 70th anniversary.

The editorial board and editorial board congratulate the hero of the day and sincerely wish him health, happiness and new creative success for the benefit of the magazine "Problems of the Far East".
