On June 16, Alla Leonovna Semenas, who worked for many years in the Department of Languages of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, passed away prematurely.
A. L. Semenas was born on September 16, 1937 in the family of a professional diplomat and sinologist. She spent her childhood years in Chongqing and Nanjing, where she developed a love for China and Chinese culture, which she carried throughout her life. After graduating from high school, she had no doubts about choosing her life path. In 1954, Alla Leonovna entered the Faculty of Philology of Moscow State University, majoring in Chinese Philology. In the spring of 1957, as part of the first group of Soviet students, she went to study in China, became a student at the Faculty of Chinese Language and Literature of Peking University, and in 1961 graduated with honors from this faculty.
After returning to Moscow, Alla Leonovna works at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the group of the Large Chinese-Russian Dictionary under the guidance of the outstanding Soviet sinologist L. M. Oshanin. It was he who first instilled in her a taste for lexicography, which now becomes the subject of her scientific research for the rest of her life. In 1970-1973, Alla Leonovna entered the post - graduate school of the Institute, where the famous scientist V. M. Solntsev became her supervisor. In 1973, she successfully defended her PhD thesis on "Copulative communication type in the vocabulary of modern Chinese".
The works of a prominent Russian linguist, Professor B. Y. Gorodetsky, greatly influenced the nature of A. L. Semenas ' scientific research. In 1992, under his editorship, A. L. Semenas published the monograph "Lexicology of the modern Chinese language", which for the first time in Russian literature presents the experience of scientific and search research of the lexical and semantic system of the Chinese language, examines the state of linguistic research in the PRC, the development of Chinese lexicographic science and the work of modern Chinese linguists on compiling dictionaries, analyzes the main regularities Keywords: Chinese vocabulary, paradigmatic relations between words, syntagmatic structure of lexical complexes of the modern Chinese language. The monograph was highly appreciated by the Russian and international scientific community. In China alone, it has received five reviews. In 1993, on the basis of this monograph, Alla Leonovna successfully defended her dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philology.

Alla Leonovna successfully combined her scientific research with her teaching work. She generously shared her knowledge with young colleagues, students, postgraduates, teachers in Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Chita, Ussuriysk listened to her, and her students now teach Chinese at universities in Moscow, Eastern Siberia and the Far East.
Based on her lectures, Alla Leonovna prepared the textbook "Vocabulary of the Chinese language", which has already passed through three editions. In total, she has published 80 scientific papers.
A. L. Semenas took an active part in international scientific cooperation, made presentations at scientific conferences in Russia, China, and Taiwan.
In recent years, Alla Leonovna has been actively working on the collection of new vocabulary of the Chinese language, which formed the basis of the "Chinese-Russian dictionary of new words and expressions"prepared with her participation.
Alla Leonovna was an exceptionally kind, sympathetic person, she always responded to the requests of colleagues.
The memory of Alla Leonovna Semenas , a talented scientist and a good person, will always remain in our hearts.
